The Black Scorpion Ninjutsu Society is an adult-focused (18+) martial arts organization dedicated to preserving the traditional roots of Ninjutsu while modernizing its practical combat application.

We don't teach sport fighting or flashy acrobatics. We teach real-world self-defense, situational awareness, striking mechanics, joint manipulation, tactical awareness, and physical resilience. Bobby Calvert, widely known as "Ninja Bob," is a Nashville-based martial artist, fitness coach, and entrepreneur. As the founder of the Black Scorpion Ninjutsu Society (established in 2005), he offers a distinct approach focused on practical survival, functional self-defense, and community empowerment. Moving away from flashy sport-fighting or rigid ring rules, his training merges traditional Ninjutsu lineage with modern striking arts like Muay Thai and boxing. Beyond standard fitness coaching, Calvert is deeply committed to Middle Tennessee resilience—offering mobile training, trauma-informed self-defense for survivors, youth mentorship, and volunteer outreach that proves martial arts can be a powerful catalyst for positive change.

The Black Scorpion Ninjutsu Society was founded in 2005 in Tennessee by Bobby Calvert (known to his students as Ninja Bob).

With a lifelong foundation in traditional martial arts—ranging from Judo and Shaolin Kung Fu to Muay Thai and boxing—Calvert founded the society to bridge the gap between ancient Ninjutsu traditions and practical modern combat.

His goal was simple: to create a grounded, real-world self-defense system stripped of flashy theatrics, focused on functional striking, joint manipulation, situational awareness, and physical conditioning. Today, the society exists not only to teach adults non-sport combat skills and mental fortitude, but also to build community resilience through local outreach and shared purpose.
